Sustainability Assessment of Traditional Agroecosystems in the High Region of Yaonáhuac, Puebla, Mexico

A Sustainability Index for Traditional Agroecosystems (SITA) applied in Yaonáhuac, Puebla, Mexico was built. The index composed of 16 indicators, with which the analysis diversity-resilience, self-management-autonomy, integration, and self-sufficiency carried out. To determine type sustainability, 62 in-depth interviews were to inhabitants municipality Yaonáhuac. results showed that following indicators increased sustainability home gardens: soil fertility properties, agricultural heterogeneity, linking practices garden, family participation, non-participation government subsidies, local knowledges, uses plants, material fence or boundary, productive diversity, destination crops. It found 29 gardens super strong 31 had sustainability.
